Observe operation but at least clean out the dust bunnies if you hadn't already. A clean install of Windows 7 or maybe even 10 should work to. The last little while the tower of my desktop has been making this really loud crackling noise. Here's a picture of the cables and the fan grill. I don't know if its my speakers or my computer that's making the noise but I need it fixed. If you have checked all connections and wires, and the sound is still crackling and you hear noises, system settings might need adjusting. When I leave them on, plug them out and back in, the popping is gone. I couldn't see any cords hitting any of the fans and they were all working as in they were all spinning. Realtek ones and default windows ones.
Popping sounds are the result of a bad connection. The upper left corner of the case just comes off slightly. Just as an example, Apple doesn't do that.
